Creative ideas, individual one-off solutions and a wide range of design options: EP-GRIP® URBAN stands for the high-quality implementation of sophisticated urban and landscape planning. We transform functional areas into modern meeting places of the urban lifestyle.
Bingerbrück railway bridge
TWO SURFACES - ONE COATING
Tradition meets innovation: In Mettlach, we were able to prepare a 700 square metre area for preservation and design it with EP-GRIP URBAN.
Right in the heart of Bingen, on Karl-Wolff-Straße, the metal bridge over the railway tracks shines in a new, light grey look. We were commissioned by the city council of Bingen to repair the existing bridge and apply a durable protective coating.
We were allowed to recoat a total of 110 square metres. The aim of the project was to provide the bridge with long-term protection against weathering and corrosion. In addition, the aim was to increase the safety and roughness of the surface and to create a uniform, attractive appearance.
Why a new coating was necessary
Tough steel, thick bolts, solidly welded components - metal bridges appear extremely robust at first glance. However, this impression is deceptive: rain, snow, road salt and temperature fluctuations all take their toll on the material. Over time, corrosion, cracks or spalling can occur, especially at heavily used transitions or when there is a constant change between heat and cold.
However, the bridge in Bingen is an important traffic route: it connects the city centre with the Bingerbrück district. Numerous pedestrians and cyclists cross the railway tracks every day.
EP-GRIP Urban - the ideal solution
A new coating was therefore a must. The challenge: the bridge is made of metal and concrete, two completely different substrates. Our task was to join these materials seamlessly, without any visible or perceptible transitions.
To master this task, we chose EP-GRIP Urban. The coating is based on a special reactive resin that can be combined with a wide variety of substrates, be it asphalt, wood or (as in Bingen) concrete and metal. A particularly non-slip surface is created by sprinkling in a mixture of aggregates.
For Bingen, we opted for a Röhrig stone in light grey (grain size 1-2 mm). This material is extremely hard-wearing and offers optimum protection. At the same time, it blends in perfectly with the cityscape.
A result that impresses
The result is more than impressive: The bridge impresses with a weather-resistant, safe and visually high-quality surface.
We are delighted that we were able to contribute to a long-lasting solution for pedestrian and cycle traffic in Bingen with EP-GRIP Urban and would like to thank the city council of Bingen for the trust they have placed in us.
