ACCESS ROAD TO MOSCHELLANDSBURG CASTLE REDESIGNED
A project with pitfalls: near Obermoschel we were asked to redesign the access route to the ruins of Moschellandsburg Castle.
A project of “historic extent” awaited us in the Palatinate near Obermoschel: the access route to the historic Moschellandsburg castle ruins was to be completely renovated and redesigned. A project that involved a number of pitfalls. Careful planning and maximum precision were required in order to preserve the historic structure and still carry out the work efficiently.
Historical background of the Moschellandsburg
Moschellandsburg Castle is an impressive castle ruin from the 12th century that towers over Obermoschel. Originally built as a protective and residential castle, Landsberg Castle, as the ruins are also known, was besieged, destroyed and rebuilt several times over the centuries. Today, its remains are a popular excursion destination in the region. A safe and visually appealing path is a must to make it easier for tourists and history buffs to access the mighty shield wall and the remains of the palas, gate tower, curtain wall, stable building and fountain.
Challenges and redesign with EP-GRIP URBAN
In addition to the tight space conditions - our experienced team often only had a few centimetres available for maneuvering and working - the main task was to protect and preserve the historic structures of the castle. In addition, the access road had to blend in perfectly with the historical ambience.
In order to achieve these goals and thus fulfill the requirements of the heritage office, our experienced team first removed the existing infrastructure and created a stable base. The company B&B Garten- und Landschaftsgestaltung actively supported us in carrying out this work. In the next step, our partner, Josef Scheiff GmbH & Co. KG, laid around 160 tons of asphalt. The high-quality asphalt surface forms the basis for the new access path. Only then was our EP-GRIP URBAN coating applied. This impresses with its color variance, high flexibility and non-slip surface. It ensures the right look and maximum safety - the ideal solution for a safe ascent to the castle.
We are delighted that history buffs, inquisitive tourists, hikers and locals will now be able to reach Moschellandsburg Castle again and explore it even more easily.
We would like to thank the Burgverein Obermoschel for the trust they have placed in us. We would also like to thank the Scheiff company and B&B Garten- und Landschaftsgestaltung for their excellent cooperation and support.
