The K33 in Eschweiler was clearly showing its age. Renovation was urgently needed. However, the redesign of the busy district road was intended to benefit not only cars but also cyclists. The aim was to make the cycle paths on both sides of the road safer while maintaining a good riding experience. A project that was ideally suited to EP-GRIP VELO.
Visible, non-slip, and even
A total of 1,750 m² of bike path—between Pümpchen and Hoeschweg—has been shining in a striking red since summer 2025. EP-GRIP VELO was used, which offers numerous advantages.
EP-GRIP VELO is available in a variety of colors, including a rich blue, a friendly yellow, a striking purple, and an inviting green. Nevertheless, many cities and municipalities opt for a classic look for their bike paths. This is also the case in Eschweiler: the bright red color of the coating attracts the attention of motorists, thereby improving visibility and safety for cyclists.
The combination of stone and binder also promises greater safety. In Eschweiler, our team installed rock with a grain size of 1.0–2.0 mm by hand and under ongoing traffic. The resulting surface is extremely grippy, even in wet weather conditions. At the same time, there are no awkward trip hazards or transitions, but a continuous, level overall surface that provides a pleasant riding experience on the K33.
EP-GRIP VELO and its role in the transport revolution
The project on the K33 is a prime example of how EP-GRIP VELO contributes to safe and highly visible cycle paths and to the transport revolution.
We have summarized the additional requirements that modern bike paths must meet—based on the recommendations of the ADFC—and the role that EP-GRIP VELO plays in this in a free white paper.
