Design of the quay wall at the new cruise terminal
EP-GRIP URBAN ensures visibility
They offer a unique combination of comfort, adventure, and hassle-free travel: cruises.
From now on, the floating hotels in Hamburg have a new, attractive berth and docking spot: the Chicagokai. Thanks to EP-GRIP URBAN, the quay wall of the new cruise terminal in Hamburg’s HafenCity now shines in a brand-new look.
Quay wall in signal colors
In total, we coated 2,600 m² with EP-GRIP URBAN. The wide color range of the coating and its flexible properties proved highly advantageous.
The treated surfaces consisted of asphalt, concrete, and steel – a combination incompatible with many systems. EP-GRIP URBAN, however, can be applied to a wide variety of substrates, remaining permanently slip-resistant and durable.
While the quay wall itself stands out in traffic yellow and black, ensuring visibility and a clear signal effect in port operations, the adjacent plaza features granite grey, boval red, dragon red, and basalt grey. These four colors blend harmoniously with the local granite paving stones.
Ship Ahoy
The Chicagokai coating project came with several special features: the work took place in June and July 2025, while the berths were already in operation. This meant our team had to apply the coating during ongoing ship docking processes. It was an exciting task with a fantastic view of the giant vessels – yet also a challenge. Constant coordination with the stakeholders was essential, especially since the weather often did not cooperate. EP-GRIP URBAN must be applied on dry surfaces to ensure adhesion, integrity, and precise application.
Concrete edge restoration of crane tracks
In addition to the quay wall, we refurbished 800 meters of concrete edges along the crane tracks. This included 1,000 meters of joint sealing using a cold-pour method, followed by marking work in traffic white. As a result, the area now presents a fresh new look and is technically well-prepared for the demanding operations of the port.
This project highlights the broad scope of our services – from visually striking coatings to precise restoration work – and demonstrates both the outstanding expertise of our teams and the versatile applications of EP-GRIP URBAN.
