With an average of 1,715 employees, the construction services division of the L. Possehl & Co. mbh generated sales revenue of EUR 448 million in the 2023 financial year. Significant growth was achieved in the areas of traffic and surfaces and construction chemicals in particular. The recovery in air traffic following the coronavirus pandemic also led to more orders in the areas of repair and maintenance.
The order level was stable overall. However, the general economic situation and the economic challenges also had an impact on the construction industry: Although prices for building materials fell, cost pressure remained consistently high, which considerably weakened the order situation. On top of this, the sharp rise in interest rates led to a real decline in sales of around 9% in all construction sectors, which particularly affected building construction, especially residential construction. Declines were also noticeable in industrial and public construction, although these were less pronounced.
Outlook for 2024
Despite a challenging 2023 financial year, the POSSEHL Spezialbau Group is cautiously optimistic about the future. The general conditions remain challenging, particularly in view of the uncertain economic outlook in Germany. However, the high level of maintenance required for public transportation routes suggests a recovery in the construction sector, from which the company is likely to benefit.
In order to secure the POSSEHL Spezialbau Group's competitiveness and innovative strength in the long term, the focus in the coming years will be on the company's digital and ecological transformation.
