New road next to old steam locomotive
Cubanzestraße Kühlungsborn
Right next to the historic ‘Molli’ steam railway, high-quality asphalt materials, modern technology and sustainable solutions ensure greater safety.
In Kühlungsborn, high up in the north-east of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, directly on the Baltic Sea coast, we were allowed to give Cubanzestraße a new asphalt layer. The highlight of this job? The historic narrow-gauge railway ‘Molli’ steamed past our team twice a day.
Kühlungsborn is a real tourist magnet - and not just because of ‘Molli’. The steam locomotive is the fastest of its kind in Germany and has its terminus in Kühlungsborn. With around 16,000 inhabitants, Kühlungsborn is also the largest Baltic seaside resort in Germany, with a long beach promenade and many historic villas and buildings. Safe roads are therefore an absolute must.
New layer for Cubanzestraße
We were able to resurface almost 600 square metres of Cubanzestraße. Two tried-and-tested material layers were used: A 10 cm thick base layer of coarse-grained asphalt (AC 22 TS) and a 4 cm thick, finer surface course (AC 8 DS) on top - the ideal combination of grip, visibility and comfort.
We processed the materials with a modern Volvo 2820 / Ammann asphalt paver. The demonstration track also served as a test area for the machine.
Why asphalt?
Asphalt offers numerous advantages: It adapts flexibly to local conditions, such as temperature, load or substrate. This means there are no cracks, steps or tripping hazards. The result is safe roads and paths on which all road users feel comfortable, whether travelling by car, bicycle or on foot.
