Rursee in Simmerath
Lakeside paths in the Eifel National Park

One of Germany's largest reservoirs, the Rursee in Simmerath, is located in the heart of the Eifel National Park. The popular lakeside paths around the lake, which we were commissioned to resurface with EP-GRIP URBAN, lead around the lake.

High demands in Simmerath

Walkers, cyclists, and car commuters use the paths around the lake every day. In addition, there are numerous tourists and water sports enthusiasts who bathe and swim in the lake, go canoeing or try their hand at stand-up paddling, as well as those who use the area for hiking and mountain biking. The demands on the surfaces are correspondingly high: they must be resilient, offer a secure footing, and at the same time blend into the landscape.

Aesthetics meets function

Our team coated the lakeside paths with EP-GRIP URBAN over an area of 4,224 m². The choice fell on Euroquarz Siligran with a grain size of 1.0–3.0 mm in combination with yellow resin color. The aim was to create a surface that was as close as possible to the existing water-bound path covering material in terms of appearance, yet still blended harmoniously into the surroundings.

To achieve this, we carefully matched the resin paint to the rock before applying the actual coating. After several samples and test areas were created on site, the material was finally approved by the client, Backes, and the municipality of Simmerath.

A brilliant result

The result is a path surface that blends in with the surroundings of Lake Rur and at the same time catches the eye with its bright color.
