Maintenance of Airside Surfaces in Munich
Framework agreement with Munich Airport

High requirements for surface quality and tightness
Repair work during ongoing flight operations

When the sun sets in Munich and flight operations come to a halt, work begins for our colleagues at the Bavaria branch. POSSEHL Spezialbau has secured an extraordinary project: the maintenance of airside surfaces in Munich. Over a period of four to six years, our team is committed to keeping the airport’s concrete surfaces and joints in top condition.

The requirements in Munich are high. Surfaces must be level and safe while withstanding heavy mechanical loads. Precision and high quality are therefore essential. Since aircraft are also refueled on the apron, the surfaces must comply with the German Water Resources Act. Any damage to the concrete or joints must therefore be repaired immediately.

The team has only a short time window to complete this work. To avoid disrupting flight operations, all work is carried out exclusively at night and always with careful consideration of weather conditions, especially temperature. From 10:00 p.m. onwards, the task is to locate damaged areas, remove deteriorated concrete and defective joint material, clean the area, and install new materials. The latter is carried out using a customized two-component pouring system, specifically developed for use at Munich Airport and continuously optimized.

A look into practice

The maintenance of airside surfaces demonstrates what is possible with the right technology and a well-coordinated team. It is a project with many unique challenges – and that is exactly what makes it so appealing.
